Does having your period affect the quality of your sleep?

Answered 4 years ago

I find I'm tossing and turning and am paranoid I'm going to 'leak'. Anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it?

Uh, everything affects my sleep. Only when the planets are perfectly aligned, the Pope is wearing his best hat, 16 wild alligators are snapping in unison, and Steve Irwins ghost is waving his dick over me will I finally get a good night's sleep.
On my period, the only way I manage to get back to sleep after the multiple wake ups, is to imagine my husbands face if I accidentally do leak on the sheets. It'd be like that shocked pikachu face.
Also, I like to sleep on my side. But I still double length my pads (one at the front of my knickers, the other at the back, and they overlap in the middle) just in case I manage to sleep through and roll onto my back.

I used to toss and turn and be up through the night to change my pad. But since using a Menstrual cup I sleep great. The first night or 2 I was paranoid the cup was going to leak, but now it’s like I don’t even have my period the cup is so comfortable to sleep with, can’t feel a thing.

I don’t mean to be rude but if you’re bleeding that heavily should you be seeing a doctor? I just feel sorry for you to have to go through that. Maybe you could use a heavy pad and then wear period knickers over the top.

Not rude at all. I’ve seen many doctors and gotten many opinions as I also bled during labor and a lot after I had children. But they have all come back pretty much with the same thing. I have something not endometriosis but some other sort of something triosis the name won’t come to me at the moment. It has something to do with my lining of the uterus it’s way thicker than normal and pretty much it’s heavy bleeding a lot of pain during periods and during sex. Funny enough and thankfully I don’t have much pain during sex so that’s good at least lol just a real drainer though every month and I dread it each month but I just have to get through it and hope my girls don’t have it when they start their period

Have you discussed an ablation with your doctor?

It might be alright if she doesn't want any more kids

I haven’t. What is that exactly?

A procedure to reduce ( scrape away) the lining of your uterus to reduce menstrual flow.

I have never heard of that nor has any doctor mentioned it. Is it a permanent thing?

I've had an ablation it lasts for a few years, it really helped me it was only day surgery with very minimal recovery. Your gyno will only do it if you don't want get pregnant again because it does make you infertile.

I had really bad bleeding aswell, was epic. I had a D&C and the Mirena inserted. Best thing ever!!;

Ah does it make you infertile? Maybe that’s why they haven’t mentioned it I’m still young 34 so plenty of child bearing years left however I have been told no more it’s too dangerous

I have severe bleeding with my periods and leak a lot. I find I need a tampon and pad at night to help. I've never tried period undies but probably would be way better if they did work. I also tend to use darker sheets just in case I do leak.

I sleep on a waterproof sort of mat. Like those things they put under you in hospital when you give birth. Then even if I do leak I can just wash that and not have to strip the whole bed

Get period undies to wear over your pad and undies.
