6. Thrive

The author of Thrive, Arianna Huffington, who is also the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Huffington Post Media Group, makes a impassioned plea to redefine what it means to be successful. Getting her wakeup call from an accident caused by exhaustion, she began to question what success really means and what it entails. According to Huffington, our usual definition of success is, literally, killing us.

7. The Killing Lessons

The Killing Lessons is a chilling thriller that follows the journey of San Francisco homicide detective, Valerie Hart, who investigates a series of crime that left women abducted, tortured, and then killed, their bodies left with different objects inside them. Just as Hart begins to lose hope, a recent murder at the Cooper farmhouse does not go according to plan and leaves a survivor: a 10-year old girl.

8. Secret Keeping for Beginners

In contrast to the mystery novels above, Secret Keeping for Beginners is more lighthearted, witty, and can leave you with fuzzy feelings afterward. It revolves around the lives of three sisters, who live very different but relatively happy lives. But when a stranger comes into the mix, the secrets of the family begin to unravel.

9. Hausfrau

Set in a suburban community in Zürich, the novel follows the life of Anna Benz, an American living with her Swiss husband, Bruno, and their three children. However, despite her seemingly sweet life, Anna is struggling inside, which is further aggravated by her emotionally unavailable husband. She begins doing things she’s never done before like attending classes, learning a new language, and entering sexual affairs.

10. The Last Anniversary

The Last Anniversary follows the life of Sophie Honeywell, who rejected the proposal of her seemingly perfect boyfriend. Now, still single, her life turns around when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s house. She finds herself living with an unconventional family whose members all seem to have secrets. In the midst of the complications, she learns a very important lesson about life.
