Caboolture Toddler’s Tragic Death Still A Mystery

The tragic death of 21-month-old Mason, is still being investigated by police after paramedics were called to a Caboolture South home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Neighbours and witnesses said that responding emergency workers were left distraught after arriving to find the boy dead in his bed.

The 35-year-old partner of Mason’s mother, William O’Sullivan, said that it had been a “normal night” when he found Mason blue and gasping for air in his bed. He told both the police and Channel 9 that he had done everything he could to save the little boy, who was unresponsive. However, despite a friend dialling Triple-0, the boy couldn’t be revived.

Police took Mr O’Sullivan in for questioning, and held him for 18 hours in relation to the death, before releasing him without charge. Despite this police have indicated to the media that they are treating the boy’s death as suspicious, noting that he had “some injuries” they had not yet been able to explain.

The scene following the arrival of the ambulance is one that neighbours will not soon forget. One witness described the two police and two ambulance officers who “dropped to the gutter” and were “sobbing”.

“They had to be taken away. They couldn’t deal with what they had seen,” one witness said.

Another man told the media that he had encountered a man who was leaving the house when the ambulance arrived, who spoke about how he had tried to save the baby.

“As I went to go see what had happened I saw a man and I said, ‘what’s going on here?’ and he said, ‘I couldn’t get air into it. The baby was solid’.”

Mason’s pregnant mother Anne was also on the scene, and described as being emotional and screaming when police arrived. She later told Channel 7 that her toddler was a “beautiful boy”.
