Eight-year-old boy and his grandmother stabbed to death in front yard

A 60-year-old woman and her eight-year-old grandson were stabbed to death in front of their Lalor Park home in Sydney’s north west, last night.

Police have confirmed the man who killed them was the woman’s son and the boy’s uncle and that the boy’s 10-year-old sister witnessed the attack.

Police were called to the home at 11pm last night, after reports a man armed with a knife was threatening a woman.

When officers arrived at the Kennedy Parade address, they found the body of the woman lying on the front lawn beside a bloodied statue.

The body of her grandson was found outside a neighbouring property.

When officers found a 35-year-old man nearby, allegedly armed with a knife, they disarmed and arrested him before taking him to Blacktown police station where he remains this morning for questioning.

Reports emerged on Nine’s Today Show that the victims were hit over the head with a large object and stabbed, with the boy’s sister witnessing the attack.

Police have not confirmed whether the horrific domestic attack was fuelled by drugs or alcohol, but said the man had been known to police.

“We’ve been there on previous occasions,” Blacktown police crime manager Detective Inspector Paul Tickner told news.com.au

“We can’t confirm anything about alcohol or drugs. There’s probably some mental health issues that are going to raise their head,” he said.

The woman had custody of her grandson and her granddaughter, who has been left traumatised after witnessing the attack.

“She was present and heard things and was pretty traumatised by what she saw,” Det-Insp Tickner said.

Neighbours woke in shock this morning to a crime scene as a large section of the suburban street was cordoned while police investigated.
