Grandfather Tried to Save Four-Year-Old Grandson From House Fire

The grandfather of a four-year-old boy who died in a tragic house fire had attempted to save his grandson, but was driven back by smoke.

Firefighters found Tyler’s body in an upstairs room of a Dandenong townhouse in Melbourne’s southeast after the home caught fire on Saturday morning.

On a GoFundMe page set up for the family, it has been revealed that Tyler’s grandfather risked his life braving the flames in an effort to rescue the boy. “Grandfather of the boys rushed in to look for Tyler under the bed and everywhere else but was losing air himself because of so much smoke. Trying to get to safety, Tyler was not found until the fire fighters and ambulance arrived. It was too late, Tyler had already passed away,” it reads.

At least five people were taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition while Tyler’s brother was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Tyler’s mother, grandmother, uncle and family friends were also in the property during the time of the blaze.

The fire is believed to have erupted onto the top floor of the townhouse just before 7:50am. Around five fire trucks went to control the blaze.

Police said the house was ‘extensively damaged’.
