Loving Dad Tears Up After A Local Cafe Gives His Autistic Son A Chance

David was moved to tears after a Gold Coast cafe employed his autistic son – and gave him a shot at normal life.

David Edwards thought he heard his son, Sam, wrong when he told him he was hired by a local cafe for weekend work. Over the phone, Trevor Peacock, owner of Urban Village Cafe, assured him that he wanted to hire the “nice, polite young man” who always went to their cafe and stayed for a chat after ordering a milkshake and a sandwich.

Still on the phone with Mr Peacock, David couldn’t help but burst into tears.

“I was so blown away by what they did … I didn’t even know he was stopping to talk to anyone when he went to the shops,” David told Daily Mail Australia.

While he wasn’t aware that his son stops to talk to people when he goes to the shops, David is extremely proud of him. Sam, who is 22 now, was bullied in high school and has since then suffered from severe anxiety. David shares that a month ago, Sam wouldn’t even go on public transport without becoming anxious.

But ever since he started working at the cafe, he has become a lot more confident.

“The way he speaks and holds himself now is quite astounding.”

David is extremely grateful for Mr Peacock and his wife, Danielle, did.

“Trevor and Danielle saw the good qualities in Sam and were willing to give him a chance. These people are very rare. They’re a special breed.”
