Mum Shamed After Sharing Photo of Her Toddler “Breastfeeding” a Doll

A mother never expected that the adorable photo she shared of her toddler “breastfeeding” a doll would receive such criticism from people on social media.

The mum, who chose to remain anonymous, posted a cute photo of her two-year-old daughter, Charlotte, sitting in a trolley, pretending to breastfeed a doll. Charlotte can be seen smiling as she lifts up her pink singlet to hold the doll’s face to her chest.

The mother wrote:

“You know you’re a breastfeeding mother when you look over in the middle of the store to your toddler saying ‘Baby cry, baby just wants eat’ “¦”

However, one woman commented and was outraged describing the photo as “some of the nastiest sh*t” of her life. “If you’re okay with your daughter lifting up her shirt and putting her baby dolls mouths to her little “dots” pretending to breastfeed then I personally think you need to be punched in the damn face,” she said.

The harsh criticism has left the mother so shocked that she shared her experience with Breastfeeding Mama Talk. She wrote about her toddler “breastfeeding” a doll is no different to other child bottle feeding their baby toys.

“Breastfeeding is something that is natural and IS normal. A baby putting a bottle to its dolls mouth, they are feeding their baby doll, correct? There’s no difference,” she said.

The mother, who said she is still breastfeeding Charlotte and formula feeding her five-year-old son Bentley, said she does not feel the need to correct her daughter.

“I do not feel the need to correct Charlotte because breastfeeding is wrong? She said her baby wanted to eat, so she fed her. Charlotte says she wants to eat, in public or not, I nurse,” she said.

She also pointed out that her two kids are just imitating what she and the kids’ father do.

“Charlotte also pretends to do her makeup, my son pretends to work on his vehicles and fix things from watching his father. Isn’t that how it is? Your child mimicking NORMAL daily behavior?,” the mother said.

She also wrote about how lucky she is to be able to breastfeed her daughter before asking other parents if their kids “feed” their baby dolls by breastfeeding.

“Charlotte has never had a bottle, I was/am lucky enough to be able to have breastfed these last two years strictly from breast. I was just so taken back. I then questioned am I wrong? How can I or why should I tell her this is wrong when it is what she knows?

“How many other children “feed” their baby dolls by breastfeeding?!” she said.

The post now has over 1,500 reactions which overwhelmed the mother by the amount of support she is getting, especially from other parents who posted in the comments their own children’s “breastfeeding” photos.
