Two-Year-Old Pricked By Dirty Needle

A mother has warned other parents to be extra careful after her two-year-old daughter was pricked by a discarded and dirty needle at a Geelong toilet block.

Mum, Ashlee Vipont has told of the horrifying moment her daughter, Aleira, was pricked by the syringe while the girl was helping her and reached into a toilet paper holder at the public toilets.

Ms Vipont said that she heard her daughter said “ow” and the needle fell to the floor. Instantly, Ms Vipont started to panic as she noticed blood on the needle.

The mum immediately took Aleira to hospital and had a blood test done, but she said she has to wait six months to find out whether anything has been transmitted. “It’s always in the back of your head, there is the chance that something could come out of it,” she said.

For now, Aleria is back to her bubbly self.

The toilet block in Geelong is near a playground and swimming pool. The Geelong Council said the area is cleaned regularly and checked for syringes.

Brett Luxford of Geelong Council assured that toilets in Geelong have sharps disposal unit. “There is a sharps disposal unit nearby, the council will look at installing them inside the toilets, to protect others,” he said.
