Second Degree Burns On Toddler Wearing High Factor Sunscreen

Despite covering up with high factor sunscreen, a toddler still suffered first and second degree burns.

Three-year-old Liam Sayers, from Virginia in the US, was with his mother, Jennifer on Eastern Shore in Virginia for the Memorial Weekend holiday. His mother sprayed him with SPF 50+ Banana Boat kids sunscreen before allowing him to play.

Ms Sayers told CBS 6 that she even reapplied the sunscreen as directed, several times during the day after her kids come out of the water and were dried completely. She said she even covered her hands with the lotion before applying it to her son.

However, within that day at the beach, she said: “When he got up for the day, his eyes were almost swollen shut, he had swelling and blistering all over his face, primarily on his cheeks and nose.”

She found out that her son has already suffered first and second degree burns.

Meanwhile, Edgewell Personal Care, who produce Banana Boat said:

“Nothing is more important to us than the well being of the people who use our products. Consumers can rest assured that Banana Boat products provide safe and effective broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection when used as directed on the product label, and with other sun protection measures as necessary.”
