Young Girl Remains Critical After Fire Engulfs Her Home

A 12-year-old girl is in a critical condition after she was trapped in a bedroom when a fire blazed through her home in Monkland, Gympie.

Alexis Dean is fighting for her life after she suffered from smoke inhalation and sustained burns to her upper body when a fire broke out at her home. Alexis’s mother and siblings managed to escape but she got caught in a bedroom.

She was taken to Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Hospital where she is receiving specialist treatment and remains in serious condition.

Firefighters were alerted when the fire ripped through the house just before 4am on Monday. Although firefighters are yet to determine what caused the blaze, they believed that the fire started in one of the home’s bedrooms.

They will return to the property today for further investigation.

The Courier Mail reported that on Monday night, one of Alexis’ close friends posted a heartbreaking message to social media asking people to ‘pray’ for her ‘best friend’. “I can’t describe how much this girl means to me,” the friend wrote on Facebook.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to financially help Alexis and her family who have lost everything.
