Mum With Debilitating Cancer Rescues Four Kids Trapped on Cliff In Canada

A mother who is already weak from cancer treatments has been hailed a hero for rescuing four children trapped on a cliff during a hike in Canada.

CBC News Canada reported that Lelania Chapman, who has breast cancer, decided to take her son and his three friends on a hiking trip at Cliff Falls in Maple Ridge, north-east of Vancouver, after she spent the past three months receiving radiation treatment and had not left the house other than to get treatment.

As the group went on with their outing, Ms Chapman noticed that a group of four boys were having difficulty as they were trapped on the edge of a cliff.

Ms Chapman told CBC News that she tried calling on the phone for help but did not have a reception in the area, so she took it upon herself to save the boys, finding a rope and tying it to a tree in order to pull them up one-by-one. “I was pulling with everything in me… The boys were so cold, their lips were purple,” she said.

Ms Chapman was injured during the rescue, with rope burns infecting her radiation scars. She was bed-ridden for a week after the rescue, but that didn’t dampen her spirits and still considers what happened as a positive experience.
