More Breastfeeding Brides Are Taking A ‘Brelfie’ As Part Of Their Wedding Memoir

A new trend has been sweeping the internet as breastfeeding mums in their wedding dresses are having their photos (‘brelfies’) taken while breastfeeding their babies.

Every wedding photographer knows each wedding moment that needs to be captured — from the wedding vows to the first kiss as a couple. Now, as breastfeeding brides feel that their little ones are just as important in their union with their partners, more and more breastfeeding mums are jumping on the bandwagon of touching breastfeeding selfies.

The breastfeeding selfie has been growing in popularity since celebrities such as Gisele Bundchen started sharing images of her breastfeeding her baby in the make-up chair while being pampered by a glam squad.

Now, more breastfeeding brides want pictures such as this to be part of their wedding memoir.

The latest of these brelfies to go viral is that of Beth Johnson from Lancashire, captured by Manchester-based photographer Jonny Draper.

In this black and white photo, Beth can be seen feeding her son while having her hair and make-up done. It has been liked 4,000 times since being posted to Facebook.

“When you’re getting ready to get married, life with your beautiful children doesn’t stop,” Jonny explained. “Don’t get me wrong, I love a smoke bomb, some cool lighting, but real moments like this are why I love being a wedding photographer.”

Another one that was shared to Breastfeeding Mama Talk last September came from a Seattle mum who said that her brelfie with her child during her wedding day was her favourite photo from that special day. She wrote:

“I’m a young mom (19) from Seattle this was on my wedding day (Sep. 24th, 2016) and it’s one of my favorite pictures from that day. Being young I know the added pressure to do right by your child and I’m glad I stuck with it. Even on my wedding day I found a way to make it work.”

Another image shared to the Black Women Do Breastfeed Facebook page, shows a proud mother nursing her four-month-old son on her wedding day.

“I enjoy nursing my son and I made sure when I chose my wedding dress so I would be able to nurse throughout my entire night. And I was able to,” the unnamed mother explained.

“So I just want to share with women that no matter who doubts you or who turns their noses up to breastfeeding that it can be done.”

Her brelfie has inspired and has been liked more than 31,000 times and has over 5,000 shares.
