I know three different people who have worked in childcare. All swear they'd never willingly put their own kids in childcare unless desperate, especially if aged under 2. Read from that what you will.

Sounds as if you may need a better day care .. I've worked in several. I know which ones I'd send a young bubba to and where I wouldn't send a child, ever.

The daycare i viewed recently, half the staff send their own kids, or did send their kids when they were daycare age.

The staff that send their own kids probably do because they have to work. I spent 15 years working in child care and won't send mine, it really isn't great. Except for when the child is around four, kids that age do well.

Ive just booked mine into Vacation Care for the whole school holidays, and they have no vacancies left, 65 kids per day, our OSH club was fully booked within about 5 min of receiving an email saying they were open. Usually id only send my kids to Vacation care for maybe 2 days per week, but now it is literally the only thing they can do except be at home or go for a walk/ride im sending them pretty much everyday for about 5 hours. Im not in the east though, if i were there i probably wouldnt send them.

Our local after school/vacation care place closed for the entire school holidays and the weeks prior to it.
I haven't investigated whether it's reopened yet lol

Why the fuck are people still sending their kids to daycare if they're not essential workers?

How about maybe we want to keep our f*cking jobs we already have! Just because some people have already started working from home, doesn’t mean the workload is any less. Pair that with school aged kids who are also home and need to be taught. Yep, 2yo goes to day care twice a week so i can work and teach!

If you’re doing that you may as well send the kids to school too. Two year old is out there mixing with all the other germy kids and bringing the germs home to the rest of you anyway.

Our is at childcare. We are both frontline essential workers. No choice really. So few kids at the childcare centre at the moment. I believe she is having fun like always, but most importantly being very well cared for. I feel she is safe and happy.

On one hand we say ‘reach out, if you need help’ on the other hand we say ‘if you reach out for help we will judge you’

All the childcare teachers and educators aren’t risking their health at work thinking “yeah, I totally understand you need a break, I don’t mind that you’re at home having a break while I’m forced to be at work with your kids who have no idea how to social distance, let alone maintain their own personal hygiene, who could totally be at home with their mum right now.” I have no sympathy for people who choose to have more kids than they can handle, then expect sympathy and understanding when their contingency plan is to make them someone else’s problem.....

Well yes actually it is. At a time like this where we have been advised to keep our children home if we're not essential workers.

Yes it is our business when we are all affected from covid19 and in isolation. And we will continue to stay in isolation if dick heads don't start following the advice to stay at home unless absolutely necessary!!!!! How are people not getting it????

At our centre the number doubled on Monday, I've been sending my child as I work throughout but I was surprised that it seemed to be a financial decisions, particularly because it is a rich area and I am probably the lowest earning person there. I did wonder how many were truly doing it to flatten the curve if numbers have gone up quickly

ANSWER

I personally wouldn't be sending them just for a break. Leave it for people who have to work outside the home. And yes i have 3 kids so I get needing a break but everyone needs to play their part in a crisis

Hubby and I are both essential workers. Im in childcare and he is a fire fighter. I've quit my job and keeping my children home. The risk is not worth it to me. Were lucky that we are financially able to do this.

Mines been off for 2 and a half weeks already. Before the free childcare came into effect. The positive I’m getting out of this is not having to pay but still reserving his position for when he can go back.

I sent my child when I had to go to work on Monday to finalise some things and I'll have to send her again today for the same reason but otherwise she's been off for weeks since this started and I was stood down.

ANSWER

It makes no difference to how much I care about my child's health. Why would it?

I wouldn't be paying anyway as I'd already temporarily suspended DD's enrolment so was only paying the two week notice period when free care started.
