Having a baby is an exciting time. It’s also just a bit stressful, especially the first time round and may even bring out your inner cray-cray. A great way to reduce the anxiety is to invest in a baby monitor to help you stop checking if the baby is breathing every 3 minutes and to walk more than 10 paces away from your sleeping little bundle of joy.

Virtually all homes have a plethora of technology products that were unheard of a few years ago but are almost essential in 2014. Less than a decade ago, reading books was considered to be on the decline but e-readers emerged and created an entirely new audience of avid readers who now dip in and out of books while on the go, on the beach, in the car , or just about anywhere.

Technology is evolving faster and smarter than ever before, it is hard to believe, that as recently as 2009 if you wanted to see your baby from another room your options were limited to some clunky, analogue monitor that would beam grainy grey images of your baby to the parent unit complete with interference. Now they come with night vision, crystal clear images, crisp audio and in every color under the sun.

Old analogue systems used a small number of preset channels and anyone with a compatible monitor within range was able to pick up your camera’s signal. Today’s modern monitors have technology security just like any other device. In just 5 short years, baby monitors have evolved into top of the line advanced products, easily accessible to mums and dads everywhere.

Video Baby Monitors

Video baby monitors include fully encrypted processors for absolute privacy and are digital for crystal clear sound. They are pretty much a mini computer. The upper end models will have faster frames per second (FPS) which essentially means moving images are more fluid. You can also select options such as Multi-Cameras that are great for monitoring twins or for keeping an eye on children in other rooms, and many have talk-back features to keep you in contact with your baby.Baby Monitors

Internet Baby Monitors

So flash. You can monitor your baby via the Internet using your iPad, Tablet, Smart Phone, Notebook or anything that will accept a 3G signal. Be sure to check with the store that the product you have selected is suitable for your equipment. Internet baby monitors have all the same features as a video baby monitor.

Skype Baby Monitors

If you have a Skype account there are actually monitors that will work directly from your account. You will not get images of course but in the unlikely event you need to hear your baby from across the other side of the world and you do not want an Internet baby monitor then this might be for you.

Bluetooth Baby Monitors

For parents that travel with baby frequently there is a Bluetooth monitor that pairs with your mobile and turns your phone into a parent unit.

Long Range Baby Monitor

A baby monitors’ effective range is reduced by walls and other normal day to day ‘obstacles’. Long range baby monitors are usually audio only and can cover up to 2km range. They are great for parents with large or very old houses and farmers that may need to nip out to the paddock.

Baby monitors provide peace of mind, with crystal clarity and modern technology. What type of baby monitor did you/ do you use? Do you have any amusing stories about crossed signals on old analog units?
