Do You Know What These Wedding Traditions Mean?

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue….

Most brides, even the unsuperstitious, do this.  It dates back to Victoria times when everyone was super superstitious.

Something old – is the link with the bride’s family and past.

Something new  – represents success in the bride’s new life.

Something borrowed  – is to remind the bride that her family and friends will always be there for her.

Something blue is the symbol of faithfulness and loyalty.

Bride on Groom’s Left

This is all about where a groom would wear his sword.  On the right of course so the Bride had to be on the left so the groom’s sword arm was free.

Giving Away the Bride

This is from the past for sure. Daughters were considered their father’s property.  It was a man’s right to sell his child to the groom. Today a father giving away his daughter is a symbol of his blessing of the marriage.
