A mother who was caught drink driving with her three children in the car has avoided jail.

Jacqueline Mumbler, 37, was arrested in May this year in west Sydney for drink driving with her three children all under the age of six in the backseat of her car. Her blood-alcohol limit was read at 0.159 or three times over the legal limit.

Seven News reported that she was given a 13-month suspended jail sentence on Tuesday.

At the time of her arrest, Ms Mumbler said that she was ‘disgusted with herself’, which she again reiterated this week.

“I have been beating myself up for the past four or five months. I made a mistake,” she said, adding that she is relieved by the outcome and believed she was going to have to go to prison.

Seven News also reported that police found that Ms Mumbler’s car was unregistered and uninsured when she was stopped, and her eight-month-old child was seen unrestrained in the backseat. Her other children, aged six and three, were also found in the backseat.

Ms Mumbler completed four months in rehabilitation which prompted the Magistrate to suspend her sentence despite a conviction for mid-range drink driving last year.

Ms Mumbler said that the ruling was a ‘turning point’ in her life.

“Opened my eyes up anyway because my kids mean everything,” she said.
