Nashville (Netflix)

“Oh, it’s easy to get 20,000 people to love you.” Juliette

A little bit of ‘Days of our Lives’ but set to country music.  I’m not a fan of country and/or western, but I adore the music in this show.  Has a bit of a predictable story line, but with some hot fellas to perv at, and enough Aussies in there to keep it interesting, once you start watching, you won’t want to stop!  It got canned at the end of the last season, but there was a world wide uproar about it – and it has now been picked up by another producer and channel.

Plot:  Rayna James (Connie Britton) is the Queen of Country Music in Nashville…. But to stay relevant, she needs to reinvent herself, and her show.  Enter Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) who is a talented pain the arse singer that likes to squish everyone around her.

Look out for: Jonathon Jackson – he is so freaking adorable as ‘Avery’ – he is what every woman wants! Clare Bowen is awesome as Scarlett – and she is an Aussie girl!

Best Parts:  The songs are awesome, and it makes you want to go to Nashville.

Worst Parts:  The storyline can be so predictable…. but it’s a bit like heroin (so I’ve heard) and you just keep wanting more!

Game of Thrones (Foxtel)

“Winter is Coming…..”

It isn’t the most talked about epic television show of all time for no reason!  It isn’t the kind of show you watch whilst tending to kids, you need to pay attention to keep up with all the story lines and characters going on – but it is just simply a masterpiece and perhaps the best television series in history!

Plot:  Literally a ‘Game of Thrones’.  Five different families fighting to gain control of the throne.

Look out for:  Dragons and nudity.

Best Parts: The costumes, the plot, the story – every part of this is just brilliant.

Worst Parts: It isn’t on every night of the week.

Supernatural (Netflix)

“I’ll interrogate the cat”… Castiel

Now about to debut it’s 12th season, Supernatural is one of my all time favorites.  Think The X-Files – but with hot brothers.  It just gets better every season without fail.

Plot:  Supernatural is about two brothers, the Winchesters who are ‘Hunters’ who fight everything that goes ‘bump’ in the night. They even befriend an Angel who wears a trench-coat and has no idea how to act like a human.  The King of Hell is also so likeable…..

Best Parts:  Jensen Ackles and Jared Padeleckii who play the leads, are best friends in real life, and it really shows.  Well acted, and they don’t take themselves too seriously.

Best Episode:  ‘The French Mistake’

Worst Parts:  None.  There are a huge 22 episodes in every season!

Silicon Valley

And your logo looks like a sideways vagina.  I find that to be racist, don’t you?’  Erlich Bachmann

A hilarious comedy romp about a start up tech company located in Silicon Valley.  If you have anything to do with the internet business, you will love this show!

Plot:  Richard has invented a new internet system that ‘compresses data’.  He is an overnight success and calls his business ‘Pied Piper’  He has programmers, investors and assistants who help and hinder his progress – but he has no idea what he is doing. Plus their competition ‘Hooli’ is trying their best to wipe them out!

Best Part:  Jared the homeless assistant who lives in their garage.

Worst Part:  It only goes for 30 minutes an ep!

Jessica Jones (Netflix)

“I don’t give a bag of dicks what kinky shit you’re into.  Just be into it quietly”… Jessica Jones

When I read they were doing ANOTHER Marvel series, I was bummed.  I haven’t been a fan of the past superhero series.  But I really liked Jessica Jones.  She is a dark superhero who doesn’t really want to be one.  Jessica is played by Kristen Ritter (who is a right hottie and is just born for this role!).  She is a drunk that can’t get her shit together, but has opened her own detective agency called ‘Alias Investigations’. She is rough, sarcastic and problematic.

Best Bits:  Seeing a superhero that has real problems and deals with things like rape, domestic violence and other taboo subjects normally not covered.

Worst Bits:  Her caustic attitude can get annoying by the end of an episode.

Good to see: Our very own Rachael Taylor as ‘Trish Walker’ – Jessica’s best friend.

Homeland (Showtime)

“Just because I’m sleeping with him doesn’t mean I’d perjure myself to protect him”  Allison

A very serious tv series about a soldier returning home from 8 years in captivity in Iraq.  Carrie Mathison is a spy for the CIA, she is a manic depressive that rarely does what she is told, but is the best of the best – so the CIA put up with her bad behaviour.  Now in its fifth season, this serious drama will have you on the edge of your seat!

Best Part: Claire Danes is brilliant as Carrie Mathison.

Worst Part:  Damian Lewis is killed off in season two (boo).

Seasons Six is due to start in January 2017.

House of Cards (Netflix)

“The best thing about human beings is that they stack so neatly.”  Frank Underwood

Frank Underwood is a US Representative that is ruthless in his travels to become the President of the United States.  There is nothing he won’t do.  Definitely an anti-hero – you just love to love him, no matter how bad he is.  His wife Claire (Robin Wright) – is perhaps more ambitious and ruthless than Frank himself….

Best Part: When Frank talks to the camera to us about what he is really thinking.

Worst Part: Love to hate Claire Underwood – but it wouldn’t be the same without her.
