5 Shocking Cases of Foetal Abduction by Women

Hearing about kidnapping stories is enough to make us nauseous, what more if it’s stories about unborn babies being forcibly taken from the womb.

For a mum or perhaps any sane person, foetal abduction is just morbid.

How could someone think of doing such an evil thing? A mum-to-be who lovingly carried her child for months and tragically meets someone who is about to take away her baby even before her baby is even born — it’s just freaking horrible!

We’ve jotted down the five women who committed the most shocking cases of foetal abduction that you would never ever believe had happened.

1. Lisa Montgomery

Lisa Montgomery was obsessed with being pregnant and saw it as an opportunity to get attention. After marrying Carl Bowman when she was a teenager in 1986, she went on to have four children, but after her last child was delivered prematurely, doctors told her to have a tubal ligation, which she did. Her relationship with Bowman wasn’t a smooth one and they got divorced in 1993 but remarried again the next year. She also faked two pregnancies despite having a tubal ligation. In 1998, she filed for divorce, taking their four children, and went on to remarry Kevin Montgomery in 2000 and lived together with his three children and her four kids.

Not long after, Lisa faked another pregnancy and allegedly miscarried close to her due date. Her husband didn’t know the term tubal ligation and so she continued to fake another pregnancy with a December 2004 due date, which would lead her to murder.

Lisa met 23-year-old and eight months pregnant Bobbie Jo Stinnett in a rat terrier chatroom “Ratter Chatter.” Posing as “Darlene Fisher“, Lisa tricked Bobbie Jo into thinking she was also pregnant and loves rat terriers, so they agreed to meet when she told Bobbie Jo she would purchase a rat terrier.

Bobbie Jo gave Lisa the directions to her home in Skidmore, Missouri and the two finally met on December 16, 2004. There, Lisa strangled Bobbie Jo with a pink neon rope and cut the premature infant from her womb, leaving her for dead.

Lisa then called up Kevin at around 5:15pm claiming she was in Topeka, Kansas and told him she gave birth to a baby girl. Kevin immediately picked her up and the newborn, they had named Abigail, and drove home.

Around the same time, Bobbie Jo’s mother, Becky Harper went to her daughter’s home and was horrified to see her daughter in a pool of blood clasping tufts of blonde hair, her stomach was sliced open and her child missing. Becky then called the police and issued an Amber alert even if she wasn’t sure if the baby survived. Paramedics tried to revive Bobbie Jo but she was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.

News of Bobbie Jo’s death spread and FBI investigations led to Lisa when they traced the IP address she used during her chat with Bobbie Jo. The FBI also called up birth clinics in Topeka and found that no babies had been born on the 16th of December.

Lisa was arrested on December 17, 2004 at her home, and was charged with kidnapping resulting in death.

The baby, who was later named Victoria Jo Stinnett, was returned to her father, Zeb, in good health.

On October 22, 2007, the jury found Lisa guilty of murder and recommended the death sentence.

She is currently being held at the Federal Medical Centre, Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas. When her sentence is carried out, she will become the only third woman put to death by the federal concernment since 1927.

2. Annette Morales-Rodriguez

Annette Morales-Rodriguez, 33, was already a mother of three and she wanted to give her boyfriend a son. Despite her difficulties in being able to get pregnant, she told her boyfriend she was already pregnant. And to save face, she decided to take the matter into her own hands…quite literally.

On October 5, 2011, Annette searched for a pregnant woman to “take the baby and make it hers.” When she couldn’t find one, she continued her search, until the following day, while driving near an agency that catered to pregnant women, she found 23-year-old Maritza Ramirez-Cruz, who was just days away from giving birth, and she offered her a ride.

After taking Maritza to a nearby drugstore for some nausea medication, she said she had to go home and change her shoes. At her home, Maritza went inside to use the bathroom. When Maritza got out of the bathroom, Annette struck her in the head with a baseball bat several times. A struggle then followed and Annette hit Maritza again, once, and choked her until she was no longer conscious.

Annette then bound Maritza’s hands and feet with duct tape, including her mouth and nose. She then took a  knife and sliced the victim’s abdomen trying to imitate the caesarean process she said she had seen on Discovery Channel. She then cut out the placenta and dragged Maritza’s body to the basement and hid her near the hot water heater.

Annette then called 911 claiming she had given birth in the shower but the baby wasn’t breathing. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee while the baby was taken to the medical examiner’s office.

At the hospital, Annette told detectives that she had given birth in the living room and didn’t know she was pregnant. After the interview, she left the hospital before being fully examined.

On October 7, 2011, police officers showed up at Annette’s home on Friday and took her to get another medical evaluation. At the hospital, she went to the bathroom and cut the inside of her vaginal wall until she bled, then told the doctors she was bleeding. However, when doctors examined her, they said she had not given birth recently. So, the police took her into custody.

Finally, she admitted to police that she started to panic since she knew she was not pregnant but still told her boyfriend she was. She thought about telling him the truth but said she couldn’t do it. That’s when she decided to commit the horrendous crime.

During her confession, Annette told police that she cut her hands while trying to remove the baby and showed detectives the cuts.

The medical examiner’s office found that the baby boy, who was around 38 to 42 weeks old when he died, had been removed “by force,” and that Maritza’s uterus and parts of her ovaries were still attached to the baby, while Maritza died from loss of blood and asphyxiation by manual strangulation.

Annette was charged on October 11, 2011 with two counts of murder.

3. Dynel Lane

It was the death of her young son from drowning and the desperation to have another child that pushed 35-year-old Dynel Lane to do the unthinkable.  Dynel so wanted to have another baby that she told her boyfriend in 2014 she was pregnant despite knowing she was not. However, as her fake pregnancy stretched beyond her due date, her boyfriend became suspicious. And so Dynel decided to make a drastic and dangerous plan.

Dynel placed an ad for baby clothes on Craigslist hoping to meet her victim. There, 26-year-old pregnant Michelle Wilkins responded to the ad and agreed to meet with Dynel in her home on March 18, 2015 in Longmont, Colorado. The two chatted for about an hour, sorting through clothes. Michelle was about to leave when Dynel told her there were more baby clothes in her basement.

Michelle willingly followed Dynel, but Dynel struck Michelle from behind, hitting and scratching her. Michelle pushed Dynel off before threatening to call the police. Dynel then hit her over the head with a lava lamp and stabbed her in the neck with a broken glass. Dynel then cut Michelle’s abdomen, taking the baby and leaving Michelle for dead.

Dynel made sure she cleaned up by doing loads of laundry before her boyfriend arrives home. She told him she had a miscarriage and he brought her to hospital where she claimed to have delivered a stillborn baby, but she refused to be examined by doctors.

Miraculously, Michelle regained consciousness and managed to reach her cell phone and dial 911. She was rushed to the hospital and survived despite losing more than half of her blood.

Michelle Wilkins testifies in court on Feb. 17, 2016.

Lane was arrested and in a ruling on March 27, 2015, Dynel could not be charged with murder as the baby was still a foetus when it had been removed from the womb.

She was sentenced to 100 years in prison.

4. Ashleigh Wade

The lies, deception and crime that 24-year-old Ashleigh Wade committed are perhaps every bride’s and mum-to-be’s worst nightmare.

Ashleigh already told everyone that she was pregnant, but she knew she was not. She stole ultrasound photos from websites and used them as her own, posting them on her Facebook page. But for her, that wasn’t enough. She decided to reconnect with a childhood friend, 22-year-old Angelikque Sutton, who was almost nine months pregnant and about to get married. They bonded after Ashleigh told her she was pregnant too.

In November 2015, Angelikque was already on her way to the courthouse to marry her boyfriend, Patrick Bradley when Ashleigh asked her to stop by her home in Bronx, New York, for her gift. Angelikque agreed and went straight to Ashleigh’s home, but Ashleigh had other plans.

When Angelikque arrived at Ashleigh’s home, Ashleigh attacked Angelikque and stabbed her around 50 times, avoiding her abdomen. She allegedly cut Angelikque’s throat, preventing her from screaming. She then cut out Angelikque’s uterus, sliced it open and removed the baby girl and left Angelikque for dead.

Ashleigh cut the umbilical cord, swaddled the baby and made a bottle of formula. She then called her boyfriend, Steven Praylow, and told him she had just given birth, but that she had done something “very bad.”

Steven arrived at Ashleigh’s home to a bloodbath and saw Ashleigh next to Angelikque’s body. He took the baby and wrapped it in his jacket, walked outside and called 911.

When police arrived, Ashleigh screamed, “It’s my baby!” claiming that Angelikque was the one who had attacked her with a knife, and so she had stabbed her as an act of self-defence.

Ashleigh was taken for a psychiatric evaluation but was later found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and kidnapping and was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.

Angelikque and her daughter were brought to a hospital but Angelikque was pronounced dead while her baby girl, Jenasis Bradley, survived. She was returned to Patrick and she is now almost three years old.

5. Loretta Cooke

Loreta Cooke announced her pregnancy and her friends were so happy that they threw her a baby shower and she had everything she needed to raise a baby. The 32-year-old also took maternity leave. However, there was one very important thing: There was no baby — she was never pregnant. And so she hatched a plan to make it all complete.

Loreta met Valencia Behrens and told her she has some baby gifts for her, which she needed to get at her home.

In January 2012, Valencia went to Loreta’s home but Loreta began to attack her and bound her hands and feet.

Loreta then sliced Valencia’s abdomen open and took her baby girl. She sat the baby down and lay down on a bed in another room.

After a few hours, Valencia’s family began to worry about her whereabouts and decided they go to Loreta’s home. There, they saw Valencia’s body outside and dumped next to a rubbish bin. They also found her baby on the floor in a pool of blood with her umbilical cord still attached.

The baby was taken to the hospital and luckily survived but was left with a facial scar from the attack.

Loreta pleaded not guilty, claiming she could not remember the incident. However, psychologists who examined her said that there was no evidence of mental illness. She was sentenced to life in prison.
