Mother’s Horror After 2-Year-Old Daughter’s Near Miss With Snake

A mother from Wimmera in Victoria is thanking her lucky stars today after her 2-year-old daughter had a very close call with one of the most poisonous snakes in Australia.

Little Molly was having her picture taken my her mum, Bianca Dickinson, at the end of the family driveway in rural Wimmera on a Wednesday afternoon. Ms Dickinson noticed something move during the photo shoot, but thought it must have been bark moving in the wind. Then, she realised it was actually a monstrous Eastern Brown snake, slithering just centimetres from her little girl.

Launching into action Ms Dickinson scooped Molly up and retreated back to a safe distance. Later, her other children asked her to check her photographs to see if she had caught the snake on camera. That was when she discovered the incredible photo.

At first it looks like a typical photographed snapped by a mum of her cute toddler. Molly smiles and laughs, holding onto a steel fence dressed in an adorable outfit. Then, at Molly’s feet, well within striking distance, a large Eastern Brown snake is making its way through the fence. The Eastern Brown is the second most venomous snake in the world, and also responsible for the most snakebite deaths recorded here in Australia.

This time, Molly and her mum were extremely lucky. Hopefully it’s a warning to any families living in areas where snakes like this are common: Watch yourselves!
