Mum Shares Photo of Her Postpartum Body To Urge Women To Love Their Bodies

A mother has shared an honest photo of her postpartum body, along with a message to start loving our bodies.

Kristelle Morgan, from NSW, had unrealistic expectations of her body after giving birth to her daughter, althought she knew that having a baby was going to bring changes to her life — and to her body most especially.

In her Instagram post, Kristelle pointed out what pregnancy did to her body and how hard it was for her to accept it.

“It’s been extremely hard for me to come to terms with just what pregnancy did to my body.

“I used to be pretty fit, I had my ups and downs with body image but overall I know I looked pretty good. Then came pregnancy and I was huge. I got HUGE towards the end extremely quickly,” she said.

Kristelle explained that with extra amniotic fluid and a breech baby, she began to have a bigger than average belly and more stretch marks. Her baby was born via c-section which also left a scar.

Although she admittedly did not expect her belly to stay the same, she said that she had unrealistic expectations about what it would actually look like.

“I had such unrealistic standards of what my body was going to look like after birth (yes probably because I’m way too into following all those super hot Instagram mums 😂). But this is the reality for so many of us. And I’m okay with that. My body temporarily looking like this is a good price to pay for the sweet little angel I have sleeping next to me,” she wrote.

Now, Kristelle is planning to work on her fitness and exercise this year, but she wants every woman to start accepting their new bodies and not feel ashamed.

“I spent nine months creating a life and yes it may never look like it used to but that’s okay. But it’s also okay to be sad about it. We made life, this is what that looks like,” she wrote, adding the hashtag #takebackpostpartum.

Her post has now gained more than 1,300 likes along with hundreds of comments from mums who also shared their experience.
