I Have NO Money to Spend on Fabric – What Now?
Okay so we totally understand that sometimes there just isn’t any budget for buying fabric. We got you covered too. Here is where to think outside the square to find great fabric for your project!
Thrift Shops
Visit the Salvo’s or your local Op-Shop to see the vintage style clothing that you might be able to pick up for a few dollars and can use the fabric for something else!
Sheets and Doona Covers
Most Op-Shops have second-hand bed sheets or Doona Covers – they are probably tucked right up the back. The thing is these are a great source of fabric – have a rummage through to see if you can find some right for you. Also look at things like pillow-cases!
Curtains
Scarlett O’Hara was really onto something in Gone with the Wind. Curtains come in so many bright colours and styles – upcycling them into clothing is a sinch!
Table Cloths
Table Cloths also come in a huge variety of fabrics and colours. And if you need lace – you will be in heaven because most of the vintage style table cloths at op-shops are made from white or cream lace!
Upholstery Fabric
Visit your local Lincraft or Spotlight store and check out the upholstery section – so much cheaper!
Remnant Piles
All fabric stores have a little pile of off-cuts called ‘Remnant Piles’ – great if you only need a small amount of fabric!
