Jon and Kate Gosselin began their family, in October 2000, with the birth of their twin girls Cara and Madelyn who were born prematurely at 35 weeks gestation. Following the birth of the girls, Kate suffered from polycystic ovary syndrome and underwent fertility treatments to conceive again and boom six new babies for the family hence ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’. The sextuplets, Aeden, Colin, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah were born, also prematurely, at 30 weeks gestation in May 2004.

The Gosselins were featured in the NBC reality TV show Home Delivery when their home was renovated to accommodate the large family. The family were documented in health specials and then signed to their own reality show.

In June 2009 Kate and John announced their separation with their divorce being finalised in December 2009. Kate has legal custody whilst Jon has visitation rights.

Nadya Suleman (who now goes by the name Natalie) gave birth to Octuplets in January 2009. The babies were only the second full set of Octuplets to be born alive in the U.S. and the media dubbed her ‘Octomom’ even though she had six other children so really she was more like, ‘Heapsofkidsmum’.

Natalie used IVF to conceive all of her 14 children and, whilst in the spotlight her specialist came under scrutiny, for implanting a staggering 12 embryos, far more than the maximum recommended of two, for a woman her age.

After appearing on a barrage of talk shows, a Fox special, a reality show and a doing tid-bit of soft porn, (and becoming the centre of a storm of controversy) she decided to turn her life around and now raises her 14 children herself, following a vegan lifestyle, whilst working part-time as a family counsellor. It’s exhausting just thinking of it!
