20 Of The Weirdest Laws Ever!

6. Aliens Can Legally Invade England… Kinda

In 1986, Britain passed a truly great law called The Outer Space Act 1986 (it’s a real thing) that gave the Secretary of State permission to use ‘reasonable force’ in preventing an alien invasion of the United Kingdom. However, force was only allowed if the aliens operating the ‘space objects’ did not have a licence to invade, in which case, they would be perfectly legal. Wonder where you apply for one of those?

7. In Canada, You Need To Watch Those Coins

Have you ever been stuck behind someone trying to pay a large bill in small change? Well, that would never happen in Canada, where it’s actually against the law to pay with too many coins. This law is known as the Currency Act of 1985, and it makes it legal for shopkeepers to refuse to take the coins if there are too many of them.

8. You Must Always Have Car Lights On In Denmark

If you’re driving in Denmark, don’t you dare turn those lights off, even if it’s the middle of the day. All vehicles driving in the country are required by law to keep their lights on at all times. Not following the law carries a fine of about $100, and leaving the lights on is thought to decrease road accidents.

9. You Can’t Dye Chickens In Ohio

Thanks to the Akron-Ohio Act 925.62, it’s against the law for a person, company or corporation to dye any kind of habit or baby poultry. This means chickens, ducks and anything else with feathers. It’s also against the law to offer for sale or in a raffle any kind of colour rabbit or poultry, so all your feathered and furred bases are covered.

10. It’s Impossible To Charge British Customs Officers

When you’re passing through a British airport, you’re going to meet British customs officers, but if they do you wrong, you won’t have a lot of options to seek justice. The reason behind this is Section 268 and Section 272 of the Customs Laws Consolidation Act. The first section says that a month’s notice is required before any legal action can be taken, while the second section says that any action must be started within a month of the incident. Talk about Catch-22.
