Mum Shocked After Receiving Letter Threatening To Poison Her Puppy

A mother was shocked after receiving an unsigned letter, threatening to poison her puppy if it wouldn’t stop barking.

Kirra-lee Laverty, from Sunshine Coast, shared the letter to a community Facebook page, where she stressed that any poisoned meat could harm her young children.

The letter began with a kind tone to it, but then took a dark turn towards the end. It reads:

“Would you kindly keep your dog inside the house as it constantly barks day and night and we have kids that need sleep for early morning training and school.

“I have spoken to the neigbours and there are some pretty angry people in the neighbourhood regards [sic] your dog so I’d advise you take action before poisoned meat is thrown into the yard.

“You need to have some respect for other people and maybe reconsider if you are fit to be a dog owner.”

Ms Laverty said that she shared the letter on the Sunshine Coast Community board, hoping that the one who wrote the letter would come forward and speak to her in person.

Through the Facebook page, she apologised for any inconvenience her 14-week-old puppy may have caused. “He is just a puppy and still learning the ropes! I can guarantee you that while I am home I pull him up the minute he barks!” she wrote.

“He is normally not home by himself but as my partner has gone away for work for a few weeks he has been left home with myself who has to work 2 days a week and can’t take him to work with me unfortunately!”

However, she explained that neither she, an “extremely light sleeper” nor her two young children are ever woken up by the dog and suggested that maybe the writer of the letter had the wrong house.

Ms Laverty than pleaded with the writer not to act on the threats.

“Please be smart about the action you take in regards to throwing poisoned meat in my yard because you aren’t only threatening my dog you are also threatening my kids life’s as they play in the back yard and my 8 month old puts everything he finds in his mouth!”

The anonymous writer has earned the ire of users who condemned the writer as “gutless”, an “anonymous coward”, and some called for Ms Laverty to report the incident to police.

Ms Laverty said she has purchased a training collar, enrolled the dog in puppy school, and has filed a complaint with the RSPCA and police, the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.
