Student Fears His Parents May Punish Him for Getting Only 98 Per Cent on a Maths Assignment

A student says he fears his parents will punish him after he scored ONLY 98 per cent in a maths assignment.

A 19-year-old University of Queensland student, who asked not be named, has posted a photo to social media showing his marked 41/42 assignment with an ominous plea for a roof to sleep under.

The Bachelor of Science student who is of Chinese descent told Daily Mail Australia that he has yet to go back home and fears he may be beaten and starved because he failed to land a perfect score.

“I’m always very scared when I don’t score 100 per cent. When my family finds out I’ll get in huge trouble and won’t get any dinner,” he said.

The student said he’s been expected to have 100 per cent grades since primary school, and if he falls short, he sustains physical and emotional disciplining. ‘When I was younger my mother smacked me if I didn’t get A+. Last time I got under 100 they told me ‘you are useless’,” he said.

The student claims he is seeking refuge at a friend’s university dorm, but believes his parents are on the hunt for him. “They tried to call me already. They told me I needed full marks for the Maths assignment because the subject is China’s pride,” he said.

He also said that one time, when he fell short of a perfect score in a previous assessment, his parents warned he ‘can not be like white people and work at McDonald’s.’

The student has earned mostly sympathy from people on social media since he uploaded the photo.
