14 Pregnancy Symptoms You Should NEVER Ignore

6. Itchiness

If you develop itchy skin that is all over your body or extremities, seek medical attention. If this is going to occur, it will generally do so later on in your pregnancy and may be accompanied by pale stools and darker urine. This condition is known as cholestasis or obstetric cholestasis and occurs when the liver isn’t functioning as it should. If left untreated, it is highly likely to cause premature labour and jaundice in the pregnant mother. In some cases, it can also lead to stillbirth of the baby. Cholestasis is a very common condition but symptoms should definitely not be ignored. If your family has a history of cholestasis, it increases the possibility of you too suffering from the condition so be sure to mention it to your doctor and nurse early on so it can be monitored just in case.

7. Continuous vomiting (Hyperemesis)

Although it is normal to experience some vomiting, if you’re doing so frequently, it can cause you to dehydrate quite quickly which isn’t good for you or your baby. You will likely need to be given fluids intravenously and may need to spend some time in hospital. You need to rehydrate and have other health concerns ruled out.

8. Leaking Fluid

If you experience a loss of fluid, you may have a small leak in the amniotic sac. You will know the difference and if you see any colour other than clear, it can mean a number of things from infection to a baby under duress.

9. Discomfort During Urination

If you feel a burning sensation or pain, pelvic, stomach or back pain, have a temperature and or shivering, you may have a urinary tract infection or UTI. Not only are they terribly uncomfortable, they can leave you feeling rather ill at the best of times. Increase your fluid intake and consult your doctor. You’ll need antibiotics to treat it.

10. Change in Baby’s Movements

If you notice a decrease of movement or if movement ceases all together, seek medical help STRAIGHT AWAY.
